What is a Backhaul?

Backhaul is the return movement of a transport vehicle after delivering goods to their destination. It involves transporting a truckload of goods back to its original starting point.

Backhaul logistics is planning and organising a vehicle’s return transport route after it has completed its initial journey. Backhaul transport can reduce transportation costs and increase efficiency by utilising the available space in a vehicle’s return trip. Proper backhaul management can also reduce the environmental impact of transportation by reducing the number of empty vehicles on the road.
