What is Gross Weight?

Gross weight refers to the total weight of a transport unit. It includes the weight of the goods, packaging, and other materials included in the shipment. Gross weight is measured in kilograms. It determines the shipping cost and the applicable regulations or restrictions.

In contrast to gross weight:

  • Tare weight is the weight of the packaging and other materials, not part of the product itself
  • The net weight is the weight of the goods only, and it is calculated by subtracting the tare weight from the gross weight
